The Rotary Club of Belgaum South Foundation successfully conducted its flagship and highly impactful Bal Sanskar Shibir 2026 at the serene Kulgi Nature Camp, Dandeli. Celebrating over three decades of dedicated service, this annual camp has become a hallmark initiative of the club, aimed at instilling moral values, discipline, leadership, and holistic development among young students.

This year, the camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from 101 students (42 girls and 59 boys) representing 27 schools across Belagavi, making it a vibrant platform for learning, interaction, and personal growth.

🌿 A Thoughtfully Planned Beginning

The camp commenced early morning on April 2, 2026, at Thalakwadi High School Ground. Students were provided with ID cards, writing materials, and essential instructions before departure. A traditional and auspicious pooja of the buses was performed by President Rtn. Govind Misale, Event Chairman Rtn. Sanjeev Naik, along with fellow Rotarians, symbolizing a safe and successful journey ahead.

The journey to Dandeli included a breakfast halt at Ramnagar School, generously sponsored by Mr. Ulhas Shanbhag of Hotel Uday Bhuvan. Upon reaching Kulgi Nature Camp, nestled within the lush greenery of a tiger reserve forest (free from mobile connectivity), students were welcomed into a completely immersive natural environment.

🏕️ Living with Nature & Learning Together

Students were systematically divided into eight groups, each comprising participants from different schools to encourage bonding, teamwork, and inclusivity. Accommodation arrangements included 12 tents and a dormitory, providing a unique and adventurous living experience.

🧘 Discipline Through Yoga & Routine

Each day began early with yoga and meditation sessions conducted by Mr. Kiran Mannolkar. These sessions not only enhanced physical fitness but also instilled mental discipline, focus, and inner calmness among the students.

The structured daily routine—balancing learning, activity, and rest—helped students experience the value of time management and discipline.

🌳 Experiential Learning in Nature

One of the most memorable highlights of the camp was the 10-kilometre forest trek guided by forest officials and supported by Rotarians. Students explored dense forest trails, visited an elephant camp, and learned about biodiversity, wildlife, and environmental conservation.

This hands-on experience deepened their appreciation for nature and emphasized the importance of ecological responsibility.

🎨 Creativity, Teamwork & Leadership

The camp encouraged creativity and teamwork through:

  • Craft workshops conducted by Mr. Chidambar Shinde
  • Group performances including skits, songs, and cultural activities
  • Ground games promoting coordination, leadership, and unity

Each group was given responsibilities and tasks, helping students develop leadership qualities and collaborative skills.

🍽️ Learning Responsibility & Self-Reliance

A unique aspect of the camp was its focus on self-reliance:

  • Students managed serving of meals
  • Maintained cleanliness and hygiene
  • Used self-service systems for food and water
  • Took ownership of their daily routines

This approach helped instill independence, discipline, and a sense of responsibility among participants.

🎉 Cultural Night & Talent Showcase

On the third evening, students showcased their talents through group performances. Each group presented creative skits, songs, and activities, reflecting teamwork, confidence, and learning outcomes of the camp.

The cultural night was a vibrant and memorable experience for all.
